As the proud owner of a teeny-tiny bar (in Cape Town, South Africa) for the past 15 years, I’ve accumulated a treasure trove of stories that might leave you agog with wonder. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration – but trust me, some wild stuff goes down in this little place!
Now, about this whole blogging thing… I’m not exactly bursting with confidence (understatement of the century!). Who am I to think anyone would care about my ramblings? (Insert existential crisis here ! )
But fear not, dear reader! I’ve taken the plunge, and I promise not to drown in a sea of self-doubt. I have been told that these jitters are totally normal. This is a new adventure for me. So, please bear with me as I navigate this uncharted territory.
Before opening the bar, I spent most of my adult life travelling the world – usually on a shoestring, and quite often with a stint in hospitality along the way. Hospitality jobs were easy enough to find, and, conveniently, no work permit was required. Well… that wasn’t exactly the official standpoint, but it was the reality at the time.
After a few years of travelling, I married an Austrian guy I’d met in Brazil – and, naturally, we carried on travelling.
Some time later, much to my shock and surprise, I discovered I was pregnant when we returned to Austria from Ecuador. Most inconvenient! Somehow, I adapted to the situation – well, I had to. He, however, didn’t. Six months later, he left us.
And so, as a single mum, I carried on navigating the world – this time with a small passenger in tow!
However everything worked out – my little one is now a professor in Germany!! And I’m a very proud mom!
And now I’m writing about all this nonsense. Because apparently, that’s what happens next. New chapter!! 😛

Please Turn Around. 🤣Here’s the central contradiction in Hormuz that would embarrass a first-year diplomatic student: Trump agreed to a ceasefire on April 7th in exchange for Iran opening the strait. Iran opened the strait. Trump kept the blockade. Iran closed the strait again. Trump called it a ceasefire violation.
- Hormuz: Energy, Ego, and Escalation🔥Phrases like “locked and loaded” are being deployed with alarming casualness. One might expect such language in an action film – preferably one with a predictable ending – not in real-world geopolitics where the Hormuz stakes are, inconveniently, real.
